URGENT! I need help about a car mirror?!!!!!!!?

help! i have a burgundy ford expedition its a 97...the weather here is really bad but the roads were clear enough to get out so i had to get out and get groceries for my family while i still could get out and going down the hill on the way home i accidently slid into a stop sign and hit my left mirror. so i popped it back on and it looks ok, its just a teeny bit looser than the right one. however, when i tried to adjust the mirror back, ( i have power mirrors), when i tried to move it further right, it kinda i dont know the right word for it...it kinda popped....like it made a popping noise....can anyone tell me if something serious is wrong here or if its just a minor annoyance and inconvenience. i'm terrified to tell my husband what happened...he has a hot temper.......please, any help would be appreciated.....
