Problems with BT 1800 HGhub?

hope this isn't the second message one was just blocked with that infernal advert by IE.my problem is i am trying to run two laptops from the mentioned hub,i can only get one to work and that is from the usb port.the installation disc states the use of ethernet cables which i am using .is my router up the spout? codger
